DRAGGED to OLD FOLKS HOMES
1. DAY by day, the number of parents
who are neglected and sent to old folks homes is on the rise.
2. Many working children today are busy, and some of them tend to
prioritise and focus on their own family matters most of the time.
3. They fail to see their parents as their family member but as a
third party in many situations.
4. Taking care and giving primary care to their parents are
becoming a burden to these working families nowadays. Some even complain that
they are not able to manage the cost incurred in taking care of their father or
mother and it is cheaper to send them to old folks homes.
5. A friend of mine sent his parent to a nursing home with the
excuse that there is no place in his house but has built a special room for his
two dogs.
6. Based on feedback from a few old folks homes, in most cases,
children fail to visit their parents upon placing them in these homes. They
just pay the monthly fee to these homes.
7. Recently, I encountered a family of six siblings who neglected
their 82-year-old mother and sent her to an old folks home. None of them wanted
to take care of their ailing mother. She was sent to an old folks home where she
died within two months from infection.
8. I was informed by one of their family members that the mother
had begged her children not to send her to the old folks home but her pleas
fell on deaf ears.
9. I attended the funeral and was dumbfounded to see that none of
his children were in sorrow or guilt. Instead they were busy talking about one
of their children’s birthday party scheduled in the near future.
10. This is the society we have today,
where they live without care, love and compassion for parents. They live a life
full of selfishness.
11. The example I gave is just a tip of an iceberg as there are thousands
of neglected people in various old folks homes and even streets.
12. People fail to see that what they are doing to their parents is
witnessed by their own children. Children observe everything that their parents
do.
13. If you neglect and send your
father or mother to an old folks home today, your children will not hesitate to
send you to the same place when you are old and weak. That’s why we say life is
a cycle.
14. Always recall your past when your parents did the best they
could to raise you and give you happiness when you were in their care.

An interesting Article and thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteI am single lady and having a thought of who will take care of me when I dont function. As I read your article I am reminding myself to keep some saving for my retirement home. This is reality. The inflation is rising. Goverment working to shift Msia toward developed nation. We must work or be self employed. Again...not a good reason to neglect our old folks.
